Good Night Gastown (61cm x 61cm)

A couple walking. The city is awash in heavy rain.  Coming from the past…towards a future. Two strangers lit up fantastically under city lights, like ghosts appearing and disappearing. Oblivious, as if we don’t see them or wonder about them.

Completed in early 2020. The artist’s work features brush and palette with minimal paint to describe perspective with variations of texture, emphasizing the viewer’s separateness from the scene. The tree shows light impasto work, its texture assisting the effect of exposure, light and water beyond. Several vague characters exist in the shadows sharing a similar POV with the viewer. Watching strangers from the shadows stimulates our tendency to develop our own stories about them. We are watchers. Stories grow from seeds of interest, fantasy and conjecture.
