Christopher Jones
Brief Statement:
In one of his letters to his brother Vincent, Theo van Gogh described Vincent’s process as ”Seeking symbols by doing violence to form”. I am not far from that process. My paintings are landscapes,
but they are not precise or nostalgic evocations of a real scene. They are unabashedly expressionistic. I use studies, usually pastels done en plein air as a starting point in my process. I am not however a plein air painter. The pastels are a road map for a journey to a sense of reality at once personal and universal.
Brief Bio:
MFA from Washington University in 1972.
For fifteen years starting in 1973, I developed a career as a painter in New York’s Soho.
In 1988 I put my career as a painter on hold to raise a family and started an electrical contracting business.
I am currently painting full time and picking up where I left off.
Currently a member of the Silvermine Guild of Artist.
