Murmurations No.3

From an series of 21 paintings made between December 2019 and May 2022  made with pigment and oil overlaying a gum tempera medium on plywood panels. Each panel is a unique shape derived from a formula that has 21 solutions. The title  refers partly to the geometrical patterns formed when some birds (starlings) flock together, a phenomenon caused by the bird’s constant attempts to avoid the vulnerability of being on the outside of the group.

There is an element in these pictures where the curve that forms part of the exterior of the panel is used as a repetition internally; this is meant to serve as a ripple effect or an echo or wave.
