Nature derives its strength and economy of form from geometry whose patterns are observed everywhere in the natural world, from molecular structures to planetary systems.
In the construction and contemplation of the interrelationships of planes and colour I find that the language of geometry and mathematics provides me with a set of rules or guiding principles.
I find inspiration fundamentally in nature, and hope through using the tools and materials at my disposal to extract a kind of distillation and fix in physical form a thing that otherwise remains hidden. I’m inspired by the prospect of inventing forms and pictures for which there are no other means of expression and for which words are inadequate to describe.
Being an artist and producing works of Art can sometimes feel like inhabiting the realm shared by the alchemist searching for that rarefied object using mere sticks and mud, wood and glue and coloured powders.
