Artist, Tampere, Finland
Kirsi Porrassalmi is a Finnish artist from Tampere, born in 1959. Initially studying architecture due to family expectations, she eventually embraced art as her true calling. Despite taking eight years to move away from architecture, this transition was born out of a realization that she had a lot to express that words couldn’t capture. Art became her means of survival and hope, emerging from life’s challenges and expressing her untold stories. Porrassalmi’s journey includes a period of lost self-control following an emotionally revealing exhibition. Initially a painter, she has expanded into sculpture, working with diverse materials like bronze, wood, fiberglass, and anything she finds usable. Her work is a testament to her life’s story and her evolution as an artist.
