Description
“A Typical Irish House” is a work inspired by my stay in Dublin, Ireland, an experience that left an indelible mark on my artistic vision. The work is born from the strong contrasts that characterize the Irish landscape, where the dark and grayish sky is opposed to the intense and almost luminescent green of the meadows, creating a unique and suggestive atmosphere. During my stay, I was a guest of an Irish family in a residential area composed of surprisingly uniform villas, an aspect that, as an Italian, I found almost alienating. However, what struck me most was the transparency of the houses: walking through the houses, it was impossible not to notice how the large windows, often without curtains or with curtains only partially lowered, allowed to observe the private life of families with extreme clarity, transforming their homes into a sort of domestic stage. This peculiarity, as unusual as it is fascinating, has become the fulcrum of the work.
” A Typical Irish House” represents a subtle and narrative critique of the lifestyle of the typical Irish family, through a symbolic house whose windows reveal different scenes of everyday life. On the ground floor, on the left, a man is lying on the sofa, beer in his hand, completely absorbed in the vision of a football match, indifferent to the rest of the world. Upstairs, a young woman is portrayed lying on the bed, intent on taking a naked photo with her mobile phone, while in the next room a female figure, probably the mother, stands out against the window, immersed in a moment of loneliness and tears. In contrast to these scenes, a window on the ground floor appears partially obscured by a semi-lown curtain, leaving room for mystery and imagination. From a technical point of view, the work develops through the use of three main colors – green, black and yellow – that mix and oppose each other, reflecting the strong contrasts of the Irish landscape. The spatula, with its material and vibrant stroke, gives harmony and texture to the composition, visible in the details of the clouds and bricks that make up the building. The house, with its simple and typically Irish aesthetic, thus becomes a container of stories and a symbol of reflection on the tension between intimacy and exposure, between the banality of everyday life and the mystery hidden behind a curtain.
